The strongest evidence comes from lived experience. More than 40% of our staff have lived without running water or a flush toilet at home, making their insights essential for building an evidence base that truly reflects community needs and drives effective innovation.

Research Leads the Way

DigDeep, the Pacific Institute, and The Center for Water Security and Cooperation published a multi-year series on water, sanitation, and climate change in the U.S. The series lays bare the impacts of climate change to water access in frontline communities. The results become the backbone of our next step: taking it back to the communities.

The Gap Made Visible

In 2025, DigDeep launched a national Water Dashboard, built with Michigan State University. The interactive tool maps water-access gaps county by county across the country. It turns scattered data into one clear picture, so communities, researchers, and decision-makers can see exactly where the need is greatest.

Going Door to Door

Going Door to Door

With support from DigDeep, the Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health partnered with the local community to survey every household in the Naschitti chapter to connect with families still living without running water. Homes identified through the survey were referred directly to DigDeep for services. The project intends to expand across the Navajo Nation, creating the most detailed map of the water access gap to date.

Community-Managed Data

Community-Managed Data

In 2025, we advanced a multi-year effort to connect monitoring and evaluation directly to the community-led teams, completing two of three phases, including specialty training for our staff. This move builds accuracy, trust, and real community ownership over the story the numbers tell.
